Lucy Cordes Engelman is an artist who works primarily with film, performance, and writing, she is based between Los Angeles and Amsterdam.
Subjugated and alternative knowledges that are deeply embedded in place are central to Lucy’s research based artistic practice — she engages with her material as a collaborator, always aware of its own distinct and independent sensorial power. Film, video, writing, and performance all intersect and seep together in her work.
She is currently researching the embodied possibilities of the moving image — in relation to cosmic consciousness, ecology, sacred sites, and a time before/after patriarchy.
Her work has been shared in the US, the UK, South America, Asia, and Europe, and her writing has been published in various publications, including &&& , Marrow Magazine , and Boca a Boca.
She also collaborates with painter Daniel Mullen, on an ongoing artistic project exploring her synesthesia and sensory perception, and is a part of SAPLAB with Paz Ortúzar.
